Keep your gates safe, compliant, and working all year round

Maintenance plans and standalone servicing for domestic and commercial gate systems across Kent, London and the South East. We look after your gates so you don't have to think about it.

A gate that isn't serviced is a gate waiting to fail.

Electric gates are mechanical systems. Like any mechanical system, they need regular inspection and maintenance to stay safe, reliable and legally compliant. For businesses such as schools, care homes, hospitals and facilities managers, regular servicing is part of meeting your legal duty to keep the gate safe, and it helps your automation system last longer. For homeowners, it is simply the difference between a gate that works when you need it and one that doesn't. At GKW we offer a choice of maintenance plans, standalone services and force testing. Every service is carried out by our fully trained engineers, tailored to your automation system and how you use it.

For schools, care homes and other workplaces, keeping powered gates safe is a legal duty.

Already have a gate system that hasn't been serviced in a while? Get in touch and we'll carry out a full inspection and bring it back up to standard.

Plans tailored to your site

We don't offer one-size-fits-all packages. Choose a maintenance plan, a standalone service or force testing, built around your system and how you use it.

Fully documented inspections

Every service visit is fully documented. You receive a full report by email covering the condition of your system, any remedial work carried out, and any recommendations for future attention.

Commercial compliance covered

We understand the health and safety obligations that come with operating electric gates on commercial sites. Our service reports provide the documentation you need to demonstrate compliance.

More than gates

We also service automated traffic barriers, rising bollards, intercoms and access control systems, roller shutters and garage doors, so one team can look after your whole site.

How our maintenance plans work

01

Initial assessment

We carry out a full inspection of your existing gate system, identify any immediate issues, and agree a servicing schedule going forward.

02

Planned visits

We schedule regular service visits, typically annually for domestic, more frequently for commercial, and send you reminders so nothing gets missed.

03

Full inspection and report

Each visit covers all mechanical and electrical components. We test safety functions, lubricate moving parts, and check for wear.

04

Ongoing support

Between scheduled visits, we are available for emergency call-outs and repairs. You have one number to call and a team that knows your system.

Trusted by schools and site managers

I just wanted to let you know that the service we receive from GKW is always excellent, whether a standard service to the gates or an emergency call out. Your engineers, in particular Chris, are always on time and will not leave site without resolving the issue. I would strongly recommend your services to anyone.

The recent service from GKW has been fantastic. One of your engineers called Chris is very helpful and reliable individual who works tirelessly as any other engineers do but he is the one in particular to send to Fairlawne if needed. Very much looking forward to working with you all.

Common questions

How often should my gates be serviced?

For domestic installations, annual servicing is typically sufficient. For commercial sites, more frequent inspections are often required depending on usage levels and your obligations under health and safety legislation. We advise on the right frequency during the initial assessment.

Do your maintenance plans renew automatically?

No. Our plans never renew automatically. Towards the end of your plan we'll contact you with your options. You can choose to continue, switch to standalone services, or opt out.

What are my legal responsibilities for a powered gate?

If your gate is at a workplace, such as a school, care home or business premises, you have a legal duty to make sure it is safe and kept safe. Regular servicing and documented records help you show that. Private domestic gates aren't covered by the same health and safety law, but regular checks are still strongly recommended. The HSE explains the duties in more detail.

Do you service gates you haven't installed?

Yes. We carry out servicing and maintenance on gate systems installed by other companies. We will inspect the system thoroughly on the first visit and advise on its condition and any remedial work needed.

What does a service visit cover?

Each visit covers a full inspection of mechanical and electrical components, lubrication of all moving parts, testing of all safety devices and auto-reverse functions, and a check of all control and access systems. You receive a full report by email after every visit.

What happens if an issue is found during a service?

We will advise you of any issues found and agree the remedial work with you before proceeding. Minor adjustments are typically carried out during the visit. More significant repairs are quoted separately and scheduled at a convenient time.
